In recent years the media and medical profession have made a serious effort to shine a light on the negative impact of tobacco products on overall health. As you might imagine tobacco use can also have a very serious impact on your oral health as well.

Frequent use of tobacco products causes deep staining of the teeth as well as bad breath.
Trying to combat the effects of bad breath with lozenges and other hard candy adds unnecessary sugar to your mouth. This increases the buildup of plaque and tartar which can lead to gum disease.

Tobacco products also irritate gum tissue, increasing the chance of infection. This also increases healing and recovery time after dental procedures.

According to the oral cancer foundation, tobacco use has been related to at least eight major forms of oral cancer. The longer and heavier a person uses tobacco the more likely they are to develop oral cancer. Oral cancer also tends to occur at an earlier age in tobacco users.
Tobacco cessation can be a serious challenge but it is much easier than coping with the health risks associated with continued use.
